France is tightening its controls on working visas for immigrants in a bid to tackle its rising unemployment levels. President Nicolas Sarkozy has acknowledged in a policy document that the priority now is to get French nationals back into work. In a letter to Immigration Minister Eric Besson, dated March 31, he said: 'The absolute priority must be for people in France who are deprived of work to get back into jobs.'
